Ryan Miller Making The Case For MVP

Ryan Miller Making The Case For MVP
If Ryan Miller continues his torrid pace between the pipes, the Buffalo Sabres’ netminder might have some personal hardware coming his way. The Vezina Trophy, sure. But we’re talking most valuable player territory with the way he’s played thus far. As of Dec. 10, Miller was on the verge of capturing the goaltending Triple Crown. He led the National Hockey League with a 1.82 goals...

Fret Not, Sabres Fans

Fret Not, Sabres Fans
Fear struck the Buffalo-Niagara region earlier this week when, for the first time all season, the Sabres fell out of first place. The Ottawa Senators caught Buffalo, taking a one-point lead in the Northeast Division standings as of Nov. 24. Boston also caught Buffalo and was tied with 26 points. While not entirely unfair on locals’ part, Sabres fans slipped into “the sky has fallen”...

DOES RUFF HAVE SMOOTH SAILING TO HALL OF FAME?
Lindy Ruff might not be there yet, but the longest-tenured coach in the National Hockey League might just be mid-construction on a Hall of Fame career. The coach of the Buffalo Sabres since 1997, Ruff has accumulated 447 wins (a .561 winning percentage) as of Nov. 6, which ranks him No. 19 all time in terms of victories. Of the 18 coaches ahead of him on the wins list, seven are in the Hall of Fame,...

ONE MONTH IN, NHL PROVIDES PLENTY OF SURPRISES
If the first month of the 2009-10 NHL season has taught hockey fans anything, it’s to forget expectations. The standings have seemingly flip-flopped from last year, as several teams that were considered DOA have instead been stubborn SOBs. And while there is an eastern European atop the scoring leader chart, it’s not the one everyone would expect. Among the early surprises thus far: •...

SABRES WERE RIGHT TO KEEP TYLER MYERS

SABRES WERE RIGHT TO KEEP TYLER MYERS
Ordinarily a club that is quite conscious about the dollar, the Buffalo Sabres recently threw the checkbook out the window in deciding to keep teen sensation Tyler Myers on the roster. And they couldn’t have made a better move. Myers, a 6-foot-8-inch 19-year-old, was eligible to return to his junior club, Kelowna of the Western Hockey League. That would have prevented his three-year rookie contract...

PRE GAME ANALYSIS: SABRES vs DEVILS
The New Jersey Devils host the Buffalo Sabres tonight in a game that carries a little more urgency than one might think. Yes, the Devils are on a three game winning streak. Yes, they have been lighting the lamp, outscoring their opponents 10-3 in that span, and yes, Zach Parise has finally caught fire, with 8 points in his last 4 games. Despite all this, the Devils have quite the task at hand this...

PRE GAME ANALYSIS: SABRES vs LIGHTNING

PRE GAME ANALYSIS: SABRES vs LIGHTNING
Riding the crest of a 3-game home win streak, the Lightning welcome the Buffalo Sabres with thoughts of extending the magic. Martin St Louis is a scoring machine, Steven Stamkos is carrying his end of the load, and Ryan Malone has amassed 7 goals this year. Mike Smith looked ready and confident after stopping 32 shots in the game against the San Jose Sharks. The home-fed team feasted on the sharks...
